The case is a large flat layer apartment on the top floor, originally intended for a family with many members. However, the owners of Tian Yue are a family of three, rendering the original layout unnecessary and cramped. In response, Sheng Tao and his team made significant changes to the floor plan, breaking away from conventional family patterns.
Most of the functional areas in Tian Yue have been blurred, with a focus on maintaining the basic needs of the residents. The designers achieved this by incorporating a beautiful curve that seamlessly runs through the different areas of the apartment. This design choice creates a sense of flow and continuity, making Tian Yue a truly unique living space.
The realization of Tian Yue involved the use of various materials, including solid wood multi-layer floors, mosaics, inferior smooth bricks, artificial environmental plates, steel frames, toughened glass, plasterboards, and artificial stones. These materials were carefully selected to enhance the overall aesthetic and functionality of the apartment.
With a construction area of 260 square meters, Tian Yue stands as a testament to the creativity and ingenuity of its designers. The project started in January 2012 and was completed in October 2012 in Nanjing, China. Its exceptional design and execution have earned it high regard, including accolades from the Taiwan Interior Design Award and China Interior Design Awards 2013.
One of the main challenges faced by the designers was incorporating arcs into the design. This required careful consideration of both the functional use and visual perception of the residents. Additionally, constructing arc-shaped walls and furniture presented technical challenges. However, the designers embraced these obstacles, finding them to be intriguing and rewarding aspects of the project.
Tian Yue is a departure from traditional Chinese design elements, showcasing a fresh and non-traditional approach to interior decoration. While it may not incorporate traditional Chinese elements, it is still a part of Chinese culture and contributes to the diversification of cultural heritage. The success of this design has been recognized through prestigious awards, including the Bronze A' Design Award in 2014.
Tian Yue is a testament to the power of innovative design and the impact it can have on our living spaces. By breaking conventions and embracing the beauty of curves, Sheng Tao and his team have created a truly remarkable living environment that challenges the status quo.
